Mazarrón Ayuntamiento and the Bahia Tennis Club, Puerto de Mazarrón, recently sponsored a tennis tournament, organised by Aurelio and Adena, raising a magnificent 1021.50 € for MABS Cancer Support Group in Mazarrón.
The doubles tournament started on 4 May and was played over 3 weekends, culminating in the Finals on Sunday 20 May, with around 50 matches being played altogether. The winners of the men’s final were Victor and Pedro; the runners up were Daniel and Norbel. The winners of the women’s final were Nora and Aoki; the runners up were Frances and Sara. The trophies were presented to the winners and runners up by the Sports Minister for Puerto de Mazarrón, Andres Valera, and MABS Mazarrón’s Fundraising Co-ordinator, Di Choularton.
A Grand Draw was held, offering a fabulous first prize of a two night stay at the Mariposa in the Sierra Espuña, which included half board and quad biking for two people; this was won by Victor, who was one of the finalists.
A cheque for 1021.50 € was presented to MABS Mazarrón’s Co-ordinator, Zue Burgess, by the Sports Minister, Aurelio, and Adena. Di Choularton thanked the Ayuntamiento de Mazarrón and Bahia Tennis Club for sponsoring the event and making it possible, and Aurelio and Adena for all their hard work organising the tournament, with a special thanks to all the competitors and supporters who helped make this event such a success. “We are delighted to have worked closely with our Spanish neighbours on this event, because MABS provides help and support to all nationalities” she said.
