Ayuntamiento de Los Alcázares
El Ayuntamiento de Los Alcázares – Los Alcázares es uno de los núcleos de población más antiguos del entorno del Mar Menor y su nombre denomina a este rincón desde hace más de ochocientos años. El profesor Don Emilio García Gómez explica así el significado de este nombre: “Fuerte o fortaleza, como defensa de los corsarios uno”.
Palacio o palacete, varios. Puesto que el sustantivo “alcázar”, significa castillo, fuerte o fortaleza, que con el tiempo se tranforma en fortaleza. Habitado en época romana y árabe, durante la Baja edad Media estuvo escasamente poblada, funcionando como puerto de abastecimiento de la ciudad de Murcia y dedicada a zona de pastos.
Durante los siglos XVI al XVII su núcleo se reducía a una torre de refugio con una pequeña guarnición y un recinto fortificado, construido junto a los restos de las termas romanas, que albergaba una decena de aljibes para abrevar el cuantioso ganado que invernaba en los amplios pastos cercanos a la laguna.
