Rocking All Over the Park!

In June 2009, MABS celebrated their tenth anniversary with a party; that party proved to be such a success that people asked them to have a regular, annual event and ‘Party in the Park’ was born. This year’s party beat everyone’s expectations, with in excess of 350 participants, raising over 1100 € for MABS Murcia/Mar Menor.

On this bright, sunny day, partygoers arrived early at Restaurante El Torreón to settle in for an afternoon and evening of superb entertainment, which was provided by The Jersey Boys, Showaddywaddy, Club Sevillana Dancers, Freddie Mercury tribute and Smooth Grooves, who all gave their time free of charge to help raise funds for the Murcia/Mar Menor branch. Silvio also entertained them in the evening with his songs and guitar playing.

“What a superb afternoon; this is proving to be such a popular event and people are already asking about next year’s party!” commented Lyn Baines, Group Co-ordinator for MABS Murcia/Mar Menor. “We were very lucky with the weather, despite the forecasts, and it was great to see so many people here enjoying themselves and raising money for us at the same time. It was also lovely to see some of the people whom we have helped over the past three years – they are the ones that this fundraising is all about. I can’t tell you how grateful we are to all the people who support our events and help to raise money for us – without them, we could not continue with our work in this area.” said Lyn.

“I would also like to say a huge thank you to Pam Prince and Trudi Leon-Martin who headed up the team who helped to put the event together, all the MABS volunteers and the local businesses and individuals who so generously donated raffle prizes.”
