A Hot & Busy Week for MABS Murcia

18/06/2012

Sunday, 10 June saw over 250 people joining MABS Cancer Support Group to celebrate Picnic in the Park at the Vintage Restaurant, San Javier. Starting in June 2009, the MABS Party in the Park has become a firm favourite with their supporters and this year was no exception. There was something for everyone, starting with a Zumba warm-up with Lynn Preston, followed by a star-studded line-up of performers, who gave their time free, including The Red Tops, Martin Ross, Barrington, ITO & the Trails, Suzi G, Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse tributes, and music from Smooth Grooves. Despite high temperatures, everyone boogied the afternoon away and thoroughly enjoyed the spectacular entertainment.

La Manga Cricket Club, who have nominated MABS Murcia as their 2012 charity, held a raffle and raised 250€, with prize-winner, Peter Waters, donating his 50€ prize back to MABS. La Manga Cricket Club will be holding their annual charity tournament from 21 to 23 September, which will also be in aid of MABS Murcia. “In total, we’ve raised 2445€” said Janet Bell, MABS Fundraising Co-ordinator “and we’re so grateful to all the performers, supporters and MABS volunteers for making this another successful fundraiser for MABS Murcia. Huge thanks also go to our main sponsor, Time Out Sports Bar. Everyone’s had a great time and we look forward to seeing you all again next year”.

On the same day, the MABS Murcia North West Summer Fete, in memory of Ann Evans, was held in the grounds of Casa El Cantaro, Cehegin. There were many stalls including Cakes, Tombola, Crafts, Jewellery, Table Top and several traders. There were fun games to enjoy, a BBQ serving hamburgers and hotdogs and a very welcome refreshment stall as it was an extremely hot day.

Despite the intense heat, the event was very well supported and raised funds in excess of €1,250. MABS Murcia NW would like to express their thanks to all those who worked hard to make the event such a success and to all those who came along and supported it.

On 16 and 17 June, MABS Mazarrón volunteers set up their cake stall at the Camposol Fiesta. Needless to say, the home-made cakes sold like hot cakes, raising a further 206€.
